CHESTER SPRINGS, PA – Changes have been made to the timing and procedure of the repairs to the Lyndell Road Bridge. The bridge, located near the intersection of Lyndell Road and Creek Road (Pennsylvania Route 282), traverses the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek and the municipal boundary between Upper Uwchlan and East Brandywine Townships.
As Upper Uwchlan announced on July 20, repairs to the bridge had been slated to begin in late August. At that time, it was planned that the Lyndell Road Bridge would close completely for the duration of the repairs.
However, on July 27, 2017, the Townships were informed of a weight limit reduction placed on the Reeds Road Bridge. The weight limit was reduced from 15 Tons to 12 Tons. The Reeds Road Bridge is the only alternative access to the Davenport and Lyndenwood communities in Upper Uwchlan Township. Complete closure of the Lyndell Road Bridge would limit access to these communities by emergency vehicles, busses, and other heavy vehicles. Consequently, Upper Uwchlan and East Brandywine Townships have been working to find a suitable alternative that will allow repairs to proceed without a complete closure.
The Township is pleased to announce that an alternative repair procedure has been agreed upon. Repairs to the Lyndell Road Bridge will primarily involve single lane closures, with complete closures only during concrete placement. The bridge will always be open to emergency vehicles. Vehicular traffic will be controlled by signage, as well as by flaggers at times. Detours will be posted during complete closures. Repairs are expected to begin in early October. Residents are encouraged to use the Reeds Road Bridge to avoid any possible delays.
